Dealing with depression and sadness

You are here: Home / For You? / Dealing with depression and sadness

We all feel depressed, sad or unhappy sometimes. The problem with this type of feelings is when they become chronic and start to affect your life deeply. You might experience that the normal tasks of your daily life become heavy, like going to work, taking care of yourself and your family, connecting with your friends etc. You also might feel blocked, closed off, lonely and without energy and therefore not abl to pursue your goals and projects even if you want to.

What is the meaning of depression?

On one hand, depression can be an extreme attempt to ask for rest. Sometimes if you keep living a life that is not yours or approaching your relationships and activities forcing yourself to be different from how you are, your body-mind system can shut down to finally relax. We often live a frantic life based on what we should or should not do instead of what we really want and feel to do.

On the other hand, depression can also be the tip of an “iceberg” of deeper emotions that finally find access to the surface in order to be acknowledged and released. In fact, the lack of energy typical of depression is often the result of keeping all the old emotions at bay.

How to deal with depression?

If you suffer from depression we can help you recognizing the suppressed emotions at the root of it like:

  • Emotional pain: we help you to get in touch with sadness or pain, cry and feel relief
  • Anger: we help you express it and feel empowered
  • Fear to be rejected or abandoned: we help you to meet these issues with love and understanding

We use breathing exercises to meet your feelings, creative exercises to represent them, meditation and relaxation techniques to get closer to yourself, self-holding practice to melt deep and subtle layers of tensions.

Why so much attention to the body? Because, how can you feel depressed if your body becomes relaxed and open?… It is impossible! Feelings are mainly sensations in the body which are unpleasant because you control them too tightly. But if you courageously open up and let them fly out of their cage of constrictions and tension, you can experience happiness!

We work with English-speaking clients mainly in Amsterdam and online.
